How can we get babble to have more bandwidth?

I'll click on links all day if it gives you enough money to have more bandwidth. :)

No thanks. I assume babble is not a philanthropic organization and is therefore funded through capitalist means. I'm just trying to help in that end.

But aren't ads on here to generate revenue? If we encourage people to click a few ads each time they come I imagine that could generate quite a bit of money to get us a little more bandwidth.

Unfortunately Joeblow clicking ads will not solve the problem, i can see how you might think by clicking these ads you are helping but in past experience of websites the ads are normally placed there for a small amount over an agreed contract so clicking them would result in no extra money. However there are a few company that pay you a fixed amount should someone sign up to their site and pay a membership fee.

I remember one site in particular payed 4% of the membership fee to yourself if they clicked and signed up from your site.

Great idea but i feel this site needs a lot more funding to help make any sort of steady growth and fix what seems to be a very glitchy site.

As i dont know how this site works or what sort of contract they have, i wouldnt take what i have said as gods word it could be very different to how i have seen things work on others sites.

Good thinking though Joeblow.

Paying to put up with your attitude would be on the bottom of any list of to do things i would have Ladycolonel.

Show some respect to people and they might just show some back, not a bad thing to take on board Ladycolonel.

See, it's sad to see this kind of situation arise, but it's been prevalent in all the other threads I've seen.

The users say they can't be expected to pay for the site without major improvements being made first. At the same time, the site administration says they can't make the necessary changes without the funding.

Maybe the Babblesex team should implement a few solid changes in good faith, and follow it up with an incentive-based donation campaign. Think of this: a minimum donation of five or ten dollars gets you a little 'sponsor' badge on your profile (works similarly to flagging a user, perhaps?), and early access to new features. Run the campaign for a set period of time, then introduce an optional annual subscription fee of, say, $20.

In addition to the perks from being a sponsor, subscribers would get a different kind of profile badge (think, username suffixes on deviantART), access to ad-blocking, and maybe some subscriber-only forums/chat rooms.

I don't think the issue is quite as simple as adding pay-for-click ads. But then again, look at sites like (*shudder*) 4chan. m00t has built a thriving high-traffic site that subsists solely on ad revenue. So maybe that's worth looking into, too.

I just don't want to pay for the site period. If I want a pay site I can go to a ton of different places with bigger sites. I choose to come here because it is free and a good (if buggy) site.

god you people cant fucking read! AT ALL!

No one has stated AT ALL, that the WHOLE site will be a pay site. Its been stated that you can have the OPTION to pay for extra features. If you dont want the extra features. YOU DONT PAY. And just have what you have now.

Jesus fucking christ. Tunnel Vision!

Alysia, you are assuming I was referring to the whole site being a pay site. I was not. When you make an assumption you make an ass out of u and...wait...

The problem with making parts of the site require money is that it splits up the 'community.' What will likely happen is some people will pay for the extra features and then use them exclusively. This will ostracize the rest of the members who only use the free parts.

Look to adultfriendfinder for an example. There are free parts, but hardly anyone uses them exclusively. So in order to make the site useful for any members they end up needing to pay.

As I said, if I want to do any paying, there are other, more established, sites.

There is no need to be rude or yell. It makes you appear childish.
