Why don't people just leave a message if a pokes purpose is to get some-ones attention? Is it just a lazy way of saying 'Hi'? Well, I mean, come on! It's only TWO letters!

- It's something that started on facebook and was left open to interpretation. Some people see it as a shy flirt and others just a way to say hi. If you write a message to someone and they ignore it then it can be hurtful or frustrating. If you just poke someone, it makes them aware of your profile and you see if they are interested in chatting before you actually start a chat. If you get one, either ignore it, message someone to say hi or poke back. People who get annoyed at getting poked are usually clueless diskheads.
